This week’s lab assignment is….
Laguna Beach (Bluebird Beach Jetties) Ecology Lab
Smith – Empirical World
Directions – Head south on the PCH until you come to Bluebird Canyon Rd. – Bluebird Beach is adjacent to this street. Park on the PCH (notice the meters) and walk down the sloped concrete walkway to the beach and turn left. About ¼ of a mile, you’ll notice a large rock formation with a hole in it that you can walk through – this is your destination.
Goals – To observe Ecology and Biodiversity. Locate, touch, observe, and photograph as many creatures as possible – think about why they are important to that ecosystem. Are any in competition with other creatures for resources? What would be the impact should one of the creatures go extinct? Do you notice any negative human impact in that area or the surrounding ones? What did some of them do to adapt to that environment?
Assignment – 1) Look up the species you found and identify them. 2) Answer the questions above 3) Do you notice any examples of competition? Of symbiosis? Of parasitism? 4) See any populations?
Due date – Email me the paper by next lab period – thesngroup@me.com
